Alex Katz | David Salle foi a primeira exposição internacional no espaço, mostrando obras recentes desses consagrados artistas norte-americanos. Pertencendo a gerações distintas, Alex Katz (New York, 1927) foi integrante do movimento Pop, e é personagem respeitado e influente na cena americana desde o final da década de 50. David Salle (Oklahoma, 1952), aluno de John Baldessari na CalArts, foi peça-chave da geração de pintura nos anos 80, além de fazer parte da Pictures Generation, marcada pela apropriação de imagens. A figura humana, presente na obra de ambos artistas, surge de formas distintas:  no caso de Salle, como ponto de partida na criação de uma imagem inteiramente nova, composta através da  justaposição de diversos elementos, cuidadosamente escolhidos pelo artista. Já nos retratos de Katz, a figura sintetiza o “instante” que ele sempre busca capturar em suas pinturas, marcadas por gestos rápidos, cores fortes, superfícies planas e chapadas. Também em comum entre os artistas, amigos há quase 40 anos, além da presença da figura humana em suas telas, é o sério investimento de ambos na renovação da linguagem na criação de suas pinturas. Os principais museus do mundo, entre eles Museum of Modern Art New York, Tate Modern, Centre Georges Pompidou, Metropolitan Museum of Art,  Whitney Museum of American Arte Art Institute of Chicago possuem obras de ambos artistas em seus acervos.

Alex Katz | David Salle is the first international exhibition in the space. Belonging to different generations, Alex Katz (New York, 1927) was a member of the Pop movement and has been a respected and influential figure on the American scene since the late 1950s. David Salle (Oklahoma, 1952), a student of John Baldessari at CalArts, was a key figure of the painting generation on the 1980s, and was part of the Pictures Generation, marked by the appropriation of images. The human figure, present in the work of both artists, arises in different ways: in the case of Salle, as a starting point in the creation of an entirely new image, composed by the juxtaposition of several elements carefully chosen by the artist; whilst in Katz’s portraits, the figure epitomizes the “moment” he always seeks to capture in his paintings, marked by quick gestures, strong colors, and flat surfaces. Also in common between both artists, friends for nearly 40 years, besides the presence of the human figure on their canvases, is their serious investment in the renewal of language in the creation of their paintings. The major museums in the world, among them Museum of Modern Art New York, Tate Modern, Centre Georges Pompidou, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Artand Art Institute of Chicago have works of both artists in their collections.
